Women's shelter gets a new roof!
Over the years the tendency has been, reserve spending, be cautious in budgeting and be resourceful to meet the needs every step of the way.
Obviously, as a nonprofit, the goal is to conserve and stretch every dollar donated to ensure people are fed with their immediate needs met in daily services and shelter provisions.
So accordingly, one roof layer was added atop another, and another. Finally, we let the structure breathe. The three composition layers are being removed, revealing other needs which are timely in being able to access and correct for the greatest health and wellness of the residents and structure itself.
This property has seen many people in and through its doors, its held the dreams of so many beautiful souls who aim for a brighter future through accomplishments within our shelter support services. Right now, the Women and Children's shelter is getting a fresh deck of sheathing, all new soffit lumbers and flashing that will keep it water tight for years of shelter service to come.
The ventilation aspect was genius and we are grateful to have Topside Roofing navigating the needs as they are discovered in this ongoing project and GAF products being used. GAF is a supporting sponsor in this project by delivering the shingles "on the house". We cannot make the dreams of these individuals happen without the entire team and community support to back us up.
Thank you Topside Roofing and GAF for being here for us! And thank you Mount Vernon Building Center for the break on the lumber!

Transitional Home TLC underway
Offsite from our core campus, we have a transitional home in Burlington. Not so far away, but out of site, out of mind, or so the saying goes.
We recently discovered wood boring beetles are present which has caused the launch of investigation to correct the infestation and maintain the property at its optimal potential. As attention was given, more concerns were discovered and the layers of work continue as we get closer to the needed treatment for the original beetle activity.

With the amazing support from our community partners, we are able to tackle any issue with confidence. Thank you to the area contractors who are in this with us, to make sure we continue to deliver much needed services without interuption.
Women's shelter sewer upgrade
All at once is what they mean when they say, "when it rains it pours". Right now, simultaneous with the roofing project, the Women's shelter is having a sewer rebuild. The residents have vacated the lower living level to make way for concrete upheaval and a full rebuild of the sewer system. We have learned that shortcuts were taken in the past. Now, those are coming clear and we are correcting the system, up to code with a team of professional sewer experts that are working on this effort to make this space ready to occupy once more.
Thank you Absolute Plumbing for the interior work you have completed so far, now for us to tie it all back together outside.

Coming soon
Coming this summer, Barbara's House is getting a full facelift, all new exterior paint with long needed repairs to the siding. This will be a benefit to all of Snoqualmie Street. Expected to start this July.
Coming soon this summer is also a volunteer build project of the women's shelter shed. This was a group effort of grants and sponsorship to procure the needed materials, all funds are in and we have a lineup to be named very soon of all the contributors. We are currently working on getting a schedule for this shed build in place, once all other contractors have been able to complete their work and clear the site.
If you would like to help build the shed, let us know.
